Cruising Identity – The Ruhrgebiet
Project presentation by orange.edge (Dortmund) and Platforma 9,81 (Zagreb)
PHOENIX Halle Dortmund
Starting from the disintegrating spatial concept
of the Ruhrgebiet metropolis, this study
will investigate possibilities of the integrating
urban logistics that could be used in
making alternative identity politics. Along
the A 40, the central highway crossing the
Ruhrgebiet from the East to the West, decentralized
mixture of scales, typologies and
programs produce an urban system that cannot
be explained in traditional categories of
center and periphery. People often talk about
the Ruhrgebiet as the one big metropolis, but
this discussion is abstract since there is no
picture of how this metropolis really looks
like. However, the real question should be:
do we really need a picture? Even if we would
have it, would it do any good to semi regulated
locations adjacent to the traffic line?
